a good thing to practice

don't do:

me: i will be at your house for dinner soon.
grandma: when?

(what does "soon" mean)?

do:

me: i will be at your house for dinner at six.
grandma: ok, great.

don't do:

me: i'm sorry i'm late for dinner, grandma.
grandma: you should have called, the food is cold.

(cold food is gross if it's supposed to be hot).

do:

me: i will be running late for dinner, grandma.
grandma: ok, don't worry.

showing up late for a job or an interview for a job is frowned upon in our culture.
so is showing up late for a personal affair.
live with a little integrity.
give an exact time, and avoid ambiguity.
and if you're late, there's no way to undo it.
so if you know you're going to be late, call in advance.
it's easy for everyone...and a good thing to practice.
